David Vs Goliath Episode 14: Somewhere Over The Rainbow

The episode begins with yet another idol hunt, everybody searching this time. Angelina finds a clue which tells her it's in the rock wall behind the well and directs her to a ladder she has to dig up. She hides it to come back later but once she realizes she lost her clue, decides she better go now before anyone else finds it. She climbs up the ladder but goes too high and almost gets stuck, forcing her to come back down and make up a story about hurting herself.

The immunity challenge is to jump over obstacles, use a ball on a rope to pull down planks, build a staircase with them and then build the second puzzle waiting for them at the top. Davie and Nick jump over the obstacles first, but Kara is the first to release her planks. Alison is left behind as everyone starts building their stairs. Kara gets up there first, but Angelina, Mike and Nick all get something going too. A close finish sees Nick claim the win, continuing the streak of a different winner every challenge. Nick picks his Jabeni crew to join him on reward after Davie gives him a pass.

Chekov's idol: Angelina fulfills her episode 1 destiny
The meal takes place by the water well, which Angelina knows contains an idol. Angelina proposes they all go to the final 3 and get rid of Alison first. Then she lets everyone know she found the clue and they have to help her, so they immediately take off, Mike holding wine in hand. They figure out the spot and Angelina insists she go up the ladder to get it. Alison makes her plea to Angelina, but Angelina's not particularly sympathetic and is basically lording it over her that she has the power. However, Mike feels pretty strongly that Davie should go for being too buddy-buddy with Nick, so he'll need to talk Angelina into betraying their final 3.

At tribal council, Jeff digs in to the rift between Alison and Angelina, where Angelina does point out she could've voted her out at the last two tribals and didn't so maybe there is some way they can reconcile. Nick says now that he's immune, he's gonna try and get people to jump on board with his plans. The vote results in Davie going home, which was definitely NOT what Nick wanted. "At least spell my name right" he jokes on the way out, and says whoever orchestrated this move has his vote. Mike is happy to take the credit.

Angelina tries to calm Nick down after the vote and explain that Mike wouldn't budge, but to still trust in their final 3...which is pretty hard for him to do right now. Kara and Alison seem really turned off by Nick's attitude and compare him to a child.

Alison goes into the deep
The immunity challenge is to stand on a platform in the water, use a bucket to pour water down a chute until you release a key, then unlock and solve a puzzle. Alison has trouble staying on before Jeff has even shouted "go". But when they get to it, Alison does a pretty good job of the pouring and is actually the first to jump down and get going on the puzzle. Nick is right behind, with Kara and Mike next. Angelina is last, even struggling at swimming. Nick pulls away on the puzzle portion and gets a much-needed win.

Nick, Angelina and Mike all agree Alison needs to go, but Angelina wants to make the most out of her idol play so wants Mike to get the girls' votes onto her. Mike is perplexed that she's making this more complicated than it needs to be, and now she's even making a fake idol to trick Alison with. Mike tells Kara the truth and calls Angelina a psychopath. So Kara and Alison's best move then is to target Mike, who Nick agrees is a threat and that he kinda wants revenge on him. Alison "finds" the fake idol that she knows is fake.

Mike hits below the belt
At tribal council, Nick admits he was hotheaded and that it sucks he might miss out on Davie's vote. Angelina says the vote is between her and Alison tonight (which is wrong). Alison says Mike is a threat, which Mike says is incorrect, and then tells Alison to maintain some of her dignity. Yikes, catty. Mike casts his vote for Alison and gives her a B+. Alison plays the fake idol, because why not? Angelina then makes a huge scene whilst playing the real idol. But Alison leaves unanimously anyway...Kara didn't want to give Angelina the satisfaction of a legit idol play.

Wentworth flashbacks
The final immunity challenge is the same one from Cambodia...put balls down a circular track and don't let them drop. Angelina is the first one out, then Mike misses a catch, and it's down to just Kara and Nick. But as Kara is preparing to place her 4th ball, she loses track of the ones she already has, and one drops. Nick is happy to be in the final 3 especially as he didn't even think this was a challenge suited to him. Kara feels the opposite: that she should've won but didn't.

Everybody is making their pitch as to why Nick should take them to the end: Mike says he's not really going for the money, whereas Kara says she thinks the jury don't think she's done anything. Nick gives them the heads-up ahead of time that he's taking Angelina. She sees this as by virtue of her persuasion skills...but it's probably just because she's easiest to beat. Kara and Mike practice making fire. Kara is able to do it pretty well, whereas Mike is not so successful.

An unlikely victory
At tribal council, they all know what's happening, but Nick makes it official. Kara seems confident going into the fire challenge, but Mike is much less so, just hoping he loses quickly. Mike scrapes rapidly and can't even get sparks. Kara gets the first flame but it goes out. Mike gets something going, but it's nowhere near tall enough. Kara gets a few more flames and loses them, whereas Mike's keeps going. Mike wins a spot in the final 3, Kara puts on a brave face and leaves graciously. Never had a vote cast against her, dang!

The final 3 reflect on their journeys. Angelina has learned she doesn't have to be perfect and can survive without make-up. Nick is proud to be the last David standing. Mike says he wasn't making moves but he was the backseat driver.
What's cookin'?

At final tribal council, Elizabeth sets the tone by telling them don't be a politician and just be real. Christian asks about their biggest moves. Nick says getting John out. Angelina says making inroads with the Davids after her game got blown up, and also mentions the rice, which rubs Davie the wrong way. Mike says he had final 2 deals with a lot of people and wanted to get out the people who didn't trust him which Gabby confirms was correct in her case. Alison wants Mike to address some of his mean comments, and he does apologize for what he said to her on the way out. Gabby makes the point that Angelina has to face the differing perceptions of women. Kara gives some praise to players' social games, especially Mike's.

Angelina's 100 ft brush with death faces a skeptical jury
Moving on, Dan says Mike did nothing around camp, but Mike says he feels he did pretty well in challenges for his age. Davie asks for Angelina to give an example of when she was a David. She says she came in with no survival skills and ended up scaling a rock wall to find an idol, which impresses Davie. Alison wants to know if the fake idol was to embarrass her, which Nick seems to think it was, but Angelina denies. Nick gets the other side of the question, and refers to his immunity wins for why he's a Goliath.

Onto closing statements, Angelina mentions how she was able to rise from the bottom and climb back to the top. Nick talks about the hardships he's overcome, both in the game and in life, and that he did whatever it took. Mike talks about how this has been about the rainbow for him and not the pot of gold. Alright, that about wraps it up...I thought all three gave a good account of themselves there.

John casts his vote for Nick, out of respect for getting him out I guess. Christian votes for Mike, which is a surprise. Gabby even cries casting her vote. It's gonna come down to the two guys. Mike gets 3, Nick gets the rest and he is the winner.

STAR OF THE WEEK: NICK WILSON
It's an incredibly fitting story for the season that the guy who was a miracle away from being first boot ends up taking it all. Nick was smart, fought hard and avoided being a target for a long time.

Next time on Survivor...Edge Of Extinction? Color me skeptical. Not digging Redemption Island lite, not digging Joe and his awful porn mustache...let's just say it'll take me a while to warm up to it.
